Didier Mayés is one of Oaxaca’s most internationally exhibited contemporary artists — a colorist whose work has been shown across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
Who Is Didier Mayés?
Born in Oaxaca in 1968 into a family of artists, Didier Mayés studied industrial design at UAM Xochimilco in Mexico City before dedicating himself fully to painting. Over more than two decades of professional practice, he has built an international exhibition record spanning Colombia, Venezuela, the United States, Switzerland, Canada, Japan, and throughout Mexico.
His Visual Language
Color is the protagonist of Mayés’ work. His paintings combine abstraction and figuration with an intense chromatic energy rooted in Oaxacan visual tradition and in dialogue with international abstract expressionism. The result is work that feels both geographically specific and universally accessible — a rare quality in the contemporary art market.
